The Young and The Restless: Quick update on Thom Bierdz

Hi All:

Over the last few weeks there has been alot of chatter about Phillip III (currently being called "Langley" by Cain) who he is, what he is up to and the list goes on. In an attempt to be one of the first to crack the "Chancellor Saga" I came across information on Thom Bierdz. It made me realize that he was on The Young and The Restless 20 years ago, not 10, plus a lot of interesting facts that I did not know about Thom Beirdz , the man, not Phillip III.

Thom Bierdz has lived a life full of joy and sorrow since leaving The Young and The Restless so many years ago. He has written a best-selling memoir entitled, Forgiving Troy, where he speaks of his Mother's death at the hand of his younger brother Troy, who has paranoid schizophrenia, as well as his older brothers Greg's suicide 10 years later and finding forgiveness. Despite the appearant tragedy that has struck this talented actor he has still found success and happiness through his paintings, as he is also a succesful artist.

During Bierdz time on The Young and The Restless he also carried a secret that he wanted to tell. For years he worked under the guise of a straight actor and desired to come out then, however it was the 80's and the world had just begun to be familiar with AIDS and he had to be conscious of that. He spoke of the surgeries he underwent in an attempt to look "more manly", the fear he faced and the advice he was given to not come out then because of the overall lack of understanding about AIDS and the stereotype that it was a "Gay desease". He was cautioned by his manager and agent about letting the industry know and what that could potentially do to his career. Now out and proud of it, Bierdz currently speaks with great enthusiasm about how times have changed and that he now longer feels as though he has to play charades to hide who he is. He feels that his sexuality is now appreciated. (Ok I have to slip in to Y&R mode here, could he be Rafe's potential love interest that I asked about last week? I AM GOOD!!! To my Twitter pal you know who you are, they did not have a casting call). Alas, being the professional that he is, he does an excellent job of not dropping any hints with regards to his return to Y&R or how his role will develop. Only that he is optimistic and that he has expressed interest as to what he would like to do.

If you are interested in his book I have added to this post and will also add in the margin, in case you want to come and get it later!

More to come shortly! As usual, I put enough in and left enough out for each of you to add your own ingredients. So get in the Mix!

Hey! I was aware of Thom's rough past and it's amazing that he's managed to channel those times into something of beauty - i.e. his writing and art.

I know it hasn't been officially confirmed that Thom will in fact be Philip; however, with Nina sticking around it's a logical jump in thought.

I was actually thinking along the same lines as you about Rafe and Philip.

What if: One of the reasons for Philip's drinking was that he was in some major turnmoil in dealing with his own sexuality! I mean, it's hard enough as it is for "Joe Average", but if you're the heir to the Chancellor legacy and the one expected to carry on the name...

I don't think he'd have planned a car wreck as a means to stage his exit, but I can see him waking up in the mangled wreck and thinking, "If I were dead, I'd be free..."

As far as Cane's role in everything: I know that if I walked away from my family and life, I'd still be tempted to check in on them. It's possible that during his investigation on his family, he discovered that he wasn't who everyone thought he was. Maybe he started searching for Cane well before Katherine and Jill did, found him, and in him found a kindred spirit - a brother.

I'm hoping that Cane isn't a total bastard. Maybe his guilt is simply that he knows that Philip is still alive and that he feels guilty for a) not telling those he has come to love (Kate, Jill, Lily), b) he's living the life that Philip had always longed for.

It doesn't seem like Cane has been in touch with Philip lately. If they'd become brothers and Cane suddenly dropped off the radar, Philip might feel disregarded and abandoned, reason enough for him to return to Genoa city and give Cane a peace of his mind!

Hey Daniel:
Your comment is the best! Thanks so much. I agree with you on a lot of your thoughts, however had Cane never shown up, he had still produced an heir to the throne with Phillip IV. Not saying that alleviated any pressure because I'm sure living a lie must have been torture for Thom and Phillip III. He states that they have been very open minded at Y&R and Rafe does seem lonely so perhaps they will write it in. They did on As The World Turns. As I said in the post where I first mentioned the introduction of a gay character on the show, it represents a part of the society we live in so why wouldn't they write it in.

I understand if i were dead concept, but did they ever find a body? someone confirmed they believed it was closed casket, but what form of proof of death did they have? If so, was there a homeless person in Genoa City that we didn't know about? I've never seen one at The Athletic club but it would have had to of been someones body. Perhaps he hit a person on the road?

As far as Cane, what i find interesting is his disinterest in taking the money they have offered and the hesitancy in taking the Chancellor name, wanting that little old bar? There are little things like that which make me believe he isn't all bad. that he wants a more simple life then what he ended up having being the lost Chancellor. But I still think Lily is going to flip. I can hear her saying,"I'm carryng your child and I don't even know who you really are" (insert tears)

But yet and still daniel, he really seemed like the dark angel on the phone when he first came.

Also remember, the Chancellor women weren't the ones who found him. Amber snuck and did it.

welp, talk back, let me know what you are thinking!

Rafe does seem lonely! And with the success of Luke and Noah on As The World Turns, I think Y&R would do well to bring on a gay couple.

Clementine Ford is also an out lesbian, so maybe Mac could get a girlfriend, too, instead of Billy? Lol. Elizabeth Hendrickson actually has a big lesbian fanbase from being Maggie on All My Children, so maybe they should just forget Billy altogether!

They have been creative with Noah's relationship on ATWT, so who knows. We will just have to watch and see. I can't see why they would introduce that part of Rafe's personal life if they weren't going to explore it more. "With who?" would be the question.

What I do know is that he did not play the tough guy well when confronting Victor. Mr. Mumbles didn't even raise an eyebrow :)
